The open-weight ecosystem is closing the gap faster than the closed labs expected. Muse Code and Seed 2.1 Turbo are the first open models that developers are choosing over closed alternatives for production workloads — not because they are cheaper, but because they are good enough, and carry none of the API dependency risk.
Enterprise procurement cycles now lag model availability by six months or more. By the time legal approves a contract, three newer versions exist. Nobody has answered cleanly: at what point does release velocity become noise?
